Is my son talking to the dead?

My son's Ouija board

My 10-year-old son came home from school today with this Ouija board. He made it himself during lunch break. My thought process went something like this:

• That’s so cool! I’m so proud! My kid’s an original!

• Love that his Ouija board has a space bar, some basic punctuation and a back button #ipadgenerationouija

• Flashback to my own terrifying teenage Ouija board experiences (Please go home now! I need to pee real bad!).

• I hope my kid’s Ouija board doesn’t work.

• Where did he even learn to make a Ouija board?

• Who is this Ben kid and what else is he teaching my little boy?

• Is there anything you can’t learn from YouTube?

• He can’t spell ‘goodbye’, differentiate upper and lower-case letters, or get his ‘Z’ the right way round, but he can make a Ouija board. Dyslexia is not a barrier to contacting the dead.

• Who is he most likely to try to contact?

• Parents’ evening is coming up in a couple of weeks. What will be his new teacher’s position on talking to ghosts? Are his exercise books going to be full of severed heads?

• This would be totally normal if he were at Hogwarts.

Needs to do some UI testing with ghosts. I believe they favour a qwerty keyboard layout.

Hahaha 🙂 There’s a great short story premise in that.

Despite the space bar, it’s still so delightfully analogue. And I love it that your very first reaction was, Right on, son!!

Yeah, he’s maybe the most stubborn kid in the world, but he’s got a great little mind. Very proud. Cheers Karin.
